An identity formed by many origins
In A Cara do Brasil (“The Face of Brazil”), different faces, colours and references meet in a single composition, evoking the diversity that forms Brazilian identity.
Drawn entirely with ballpoint pens, the work brings together different marks, tones and textures to form a single face.
“A Cara do Brasil representa a nossa diversidade: muitos em um só. Um povo singular em sua identidade, mas plural em suas raízes.”
“A Cara do Brasil represents our diversity: many in one. A people singular in its identity, yet plural in its roots.”
— Cíntia Cris
From the first mark to the finished work
A Cara do Brasil developed gradually through successive layers of line and colour in ballpoint pen. The process photographs reveal stages that disappear in the finished work: the initial structure, the composition grid, and the progressive development of faces, textures and areas of colour.
Up close, the mark reveals the process
In the detail of the eyes, layers of line and colour build volume, shine and expression, revealing the precision of the ballpoint-pen work.
A Cara do Brasil was created in 2026 for BIC Art Master Brasil, in response to the theme “Mistura do Brasil” (“Mixture of Brazil”).
